![]() ![]() The EIS will describe the practical alternatives, and identify its expected impacts or affects on the environment. Dames and Moore has been selected by Grace to be the environmental consultant that will provide supportive expertise, manpower and technical capabilities required for the preparation of the EIS. The US Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District (COE) will serve as the Lead Federal Agency for the project. It has been determined that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be required for the gasoline plant pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA). The following sampling plan incorporates improvements in experimental design that resulted from the findings of the 1989 pilot study. This data will be combined with information on water movement patterns near the canal mouths in order to determine the percentage of ichthyoplankton that are removed from the Savannah River by the SRS intakes. The following scope of work presents a sampling plan that will collect information on the spatial and temporal distribution of fish eggs and larvae near the SRS intake canal mouths. This request is due to the anticipated restart of several SRS reactors and the growing concern surrounding striped bass and American shad stocks in the Savannah River. more ยป The Department of Energy (DOE) has requested that the Environmental Sciences Section (ESS) of the Savannah River Laboratory (SRL) resume ichthyoplankton sampling for the purpose of assessing entrainment at the SRS Savannah River intakes. Apart from a small pilot study conducted in 1989, ichthyoplankton samples have not been collected from the vicinity of the SRS intake canals since 1985. Ichthyoplankton mortality under such conditions is presumably 100%. Dames & Moore, to instrument the appropriate observation wells and to coordinate data collection with the = C during full power operation. ESS arranged with the subcontractor working on the Single Well pumping Test project. This well, located in close proximity to well cluster P-24, was to undergo a 24-hour performance test by the COE. At this time the US Army Corps of Engineers (COE) was completing a new production well (well 905-120P) in P-Area. In April 1990, while performing the single well pumping test, an opportunity became available to collect data on aquifer properties utilizing a production well and observation wells. As part of the Savannah River Site (SRS) Aquifer Characterization Program, the Environmental Sciences Section (ESS) of the Savannah River Laboratory (SRL) is attempting to determine the water transmitting characteristics of the different aquifer units underlying the SRS by conducting single well pumping tests on wells installed as part of the SRS Baseline Hydrogeologic Investigation. ![]()
